KYLE, TEXAS –– Google Fiber’s high-speed internet service will be coming to the City of Kyle, following approval at the September 3, 2024, Kyle City Council meeting.

Kyle City Council approved a license agreement with GFiber that will allow the company to install, maintain and operate a fiber optic network in the public right-of-way.

"We are thrilled to announce that our city will be the first in Hays County and along the I-35 Corridor between Austin and San Antonio to receive Google fiber optic internet services. This represents a significant leap forward in connectivity and innovation for our community,” Mayor Travis Mitchell said. “We are committed to ensuring that the installation is carried out with the utmost care to protect both our residents and our city's infrastructure, ensuring that this advancement benefits everyone in Kyle seamlessly.”

The City has worked with Google to put terms of agreements in place to protect residents and city infrastructure including but not limited to timely restoration and repair of areas affected by installation, the city has the right to reject certain contractors and subcontractors for installation and GFiber and contractors must comply with the city's Microtrenching Policy.

Kyle will receive GFiber’s high-speed, high-bandwidth internet service, which offers 1, 2, 5, and 8 gigabit service to customers without data caps, equipment fees, annual contracts.

“Central Texas communities deserve internet service that is fast, reliable, and fairly priced,” John-Michael Cortez, Head of Government and Community Affairs at GFiber, said. “We’re excited to begin our work with the city to bring GFiber to the Kyle community.”

GFiber expects to begin construction in 2026 as they complete the design process with service available to Kyle customers later that year when network segments are completed in their neighborhood. The company’s goal is to serve as many Kyle households as possible. Kyle residents can sign up for updates on the project at fiber.google.com.
