KYLE, TEXAS – A Hays County staple is one step closer to establishing their new location in the City of Kyle following council action during the Tuesday, September 3 meeting.
After the recent sale of their San Marcos location, Hays County BBQ is eyeing a proposed new location at 505 S. Old Highway 81, near downtown and along the I-35 Frontage Road, an area considered to be a catalyst to Kyle’s downtown redevelopment.
Hays County BBQ is proposing a 2,000-square-foot restaurant providing a unique dining experience that includes a large playscape for children, an outdoor stage for live music, and an outdoor walk-up bar.
“My family and I are excited about making the move to Kyle, we see the benefit all the way around, not just for us, but for the community, the City of Kyle and the surrounding areas,” said Hays County BBQ Owner Michael Hernandez. “We look forward to being another part of the strong foundation being planned out. We don’t just want to serve the community, we want to be the community.”
Hays County BBQ, established in 2007 and family-owned by Michael and Asenette Hernandez has been featured in Texas Monthly Magazine’s list of top 50 BBQ joints since 2013.
During Tuesday’s meeting council approved a Chapter 380 agreement that includes a maximum $400,000 year-one grant for utility improvements and a Restaurant Incentive for 50% property and sales tax rebates for three years.
The funding will help with needed property improvements to a currently blighted area including paved parking, upgraded perimeter fencing, burying telecom lines, and replacing light poles. Council will consider a rezone of the property at 505 S. Old Highway 81 to CBD-2 at an upcoming meeting.
