People continue to flock to Texas for new beginnings and opportunities the Lone Star State can offer. So, with small towns around Texas growing, many beloved places aren't going to be little towns for long.
HGTV named Kyle, New Braunfels, and Georgetown as part of the 30 best up-and-coming small cities in the United States.
"Whether you're looking for the next up-and-coming small city or you’re eager for a change of pace, these fast-growing small cities in the US should be on your radar," the report reads.
The report was comprised of looking at Milken Institute, which recreates an annual report of best-performing cities by economic growth, quality jobs, wages, housing prices, and Internet access. It also got the stats from the US Census Bureau's top growth cities and towns to be dominated by the South. HGTV chose towns from both lists and also used information from a survey on the best small hometowns.
Georgetown
This Central Texas town is 30 minutes north of Austin and over one year has grown by 14%, which earned the title of the fastest-growing city in the United States, according to the report. Georgetown has a population of about 86,500.
Some reasons why the city is growing, HGTV writes, are due to the historic architecture, local wineries, farm-to-table eating, and one of the Lone Star State's "most beautiful" town squares.
Blue Hole Park, which has a scenic lagoon, is the perfect place for residents to take a refreshing dip while the Inner Space Cavern gives folks the chance to explore the underground cave system in the region, the report writes.
Kyle
Kyle is the city on the other side of Austin that is benefiting from the influx of residents to the area. The Pie Capital of Texas has roughly 50,000 residents, compared to 6,000 residents 24 years ago, the report writes.
The city is also having a huge growth in businesses like Tesla and Costco coming to town. Kyle also has many national chain restaurants and fast-food stops opening.
New Braunfels
New Braunfels sits 30 minutes away from San Antonio, right in the heart of the growing I-35 corridor. The historic German town has plenty to do, like tubing down the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers, shopping or grabbing a drink downtown, or heading to the historic Gruene Hall to hopefully catch an up-and-coming country star. The award-winning Schlitterbahn water park will also help keep residents cool during those scorching triple-digit weather, the report added.
It is also the only Texas town on the list with its own Buc-ee's gas station, so that doesn't hurt getting people to visit the town.
Abilene in West Texas also made the HGTV list of up-and-coming small cities.
