In between two major cities, one Texas Hill Country town is on the path of becoming a destination of its own. The City of Kyle is boosting its local businesses with a grant program set to preserve and revitalize downtown establishments.
Kyle Economic Development announced the opening of The Downtown Revitalization Grant Program on Thursday, March 28. The funding aims to enhance the visual appeal and functionality of commercial buildings in a designated downtown area.
Establishments in Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones # 6 area are eligible for grant funding for facade improvements. That area includes two blocks on each side of Center Street from Veterans Drive to the railroad tracks, the retail areas on Old Highway 81, and the I-35 frontage road approximately a half mile north and south of Center Street.
As a grant matching program, the city is offering up to $25,000 in funding, with contributions of different levels be required.
Businesses receiving up to $5,000 will not be required to match any funding. Those with projects between $5,001 to $15,000 are required to match with a 25% investment. For businesses being awarded $15,001 to $25,000, they are required to match with a 50% investment.
Grants will be awarded case-by-case based on conditions listed by the Kyle EDC. Awarded funds for approved projects will be distributed on a reimbursement basis.
