Austin is booming, but plenty of people have been ditching the pricey town for cities along Interstate 35. One massive development is seeking restaurants to join the rush to the Pie Capital of Texas by the end of the year.
Kyle is sending out a Request for Proposals (RPF) for a restaurant to set up shop at the Heroes Memorial Park Restaurant pad site at the Brick and Mortar District at Plum Creek, according to the RPF.
"It is common for cities to utilize municipally-owned properties for economic development initiatives, often through issuing an RFP for a Public-Private Partnership (P3) project," Kyle Economic Development Director Victoria Vargas said in an email to MySA.
The city is seeking a "qualified restaurateur, developer or development team" to create an "upscale, yet family-friendly restaurant" on the nearly one-acre site (0.8 acres), which is owned by Kyle. An Austin-San Antonio mega-metro is expected to have a population bigger than Chicago until 2040, the RFP noted, so it appears Kyle is aiming to add a space attractive to the millions of travelers passing through or settling in.
The Brick & Mortar District, announced in 2021, is a 138-acre "pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use urban village" in the Plum Creek development. Plum Creek is a 2,200-acre master planned community with 5,000 existing homes, a golf course, parks and two million square feet of commercial development, the RFP noted.
Businesses looking to submit a bid have until 3 p.m. on December 6. MySA reached out to The Brick & Mortar District for more information on the project's status.
